April went by in the blink of an eye with several cool events that I really enjoyed.
First off I went out to Kalamazoo, Michigan to do a concert at the Jazz and Creative Institute. I had the great fortune of playing with some local all stars, including my old NYC trumpet pal Benje Daneman, drummer Keith Hall and bassist Aiden Cafferty (who drove straight over from his Master’s recital). We played a fun set to a terrific audience, which included Canadian saxophonist/composer Andrew Rathbun, piano wizard Matthew Fries and recent Downbeat award (and my former student) Nicholas Olynciw. continue reading
